“THE TYPE OF HORSE YOU’D EXPECT TO SEE IN some EXCITING RACES THIS spring. HE’S TALENTED, CLASSY AND HAS LOADS OF SPEED.”

Three reasons to get excited about Swing Shift:

01

FROM A TOP SIRE LINE

His sire Midnight Storm is by Pioneerof the Nile, the sire of Triple Crown Winner American Pharoah.

02

HALL OF FAME TRAINER

Like his dam (mother) Tasunke he is trained by leading trainer, Todd Pletcher. Pletcher has earned over $418M, winning races like the Kentucky Derby, Belmont and Breeders’ Cup.

03

FROM A FAMILY OF proven racing & breeding horses

His third dam Tap to Music is a G1 winner with LTE of $1.05M. She is also a half-sister to top breeding stallion Northern Afleet. A great sign when a colt’s family can produce top racehorses and breeding stallions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Writeup

It takes a special horse to convince discerning horsemen to bid up to $550,000. A horse that possesses the rare combination of superior genetics, incredible athletic ability, and the physical and mental soundness to go to the very top. Swing Shift checks all the boxes.

After our team made the winning bid at the OBS Spring Sale, Elliott Walden, President & CEO of WinStar Farm said, “We loved him. He’s a really nice colt and breezed great. We felt he looked a lot like his sire. We’re very impressed with the Midnight Storms and think everyone is.”

Swing Shift is built to do the work, he’s built like a true athlete; powerful hindquarters, solid bone, and the scope and size to cover ground easily. He has kind, intelligent eyes and possesses the focus and professionalism to handle the rigors of training at the highest levels.

Swing Shift’s sire, Midnight Storm is by the immortal Pioneerof the Nile, the sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and 16 other stakes winners in his short career. Midnight Storm was a brilliant racehorse. A seven-time graded stakes winner on both the dirt and turf, he defeated an incredible 10 G1 winners in his career including, Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Tourist and multiple G1 winner Accelerate. What makes his versatility even more special is that his Beyer Speed figures count him the fastest G1 turf miler in a dozen years, alongside horses like Tepin who earned $4.43M in 23 starts, and Wise Dan who earned over $7.5M in 31 starts. Even more impressively, he retired sound from racing with earnings of $1.78M.

Swing Shift’s dam, Tasunke, is by top 10 broodmare sire Indian Charlie, whose daughters have produced an impressive 77 stakes winners, including this year’s standout colt, Hot Rod Charlie. Indian Charlie is a reliable source for brilliant speed and gritty determination, two qualities every great racehorse must-have. Tasunke’s dam, Dancing Flame, is sired by legendary stallion Seeking the Gold and out of the G1 winning mare Tap to Music. In 21 career starts, Tap to Music earned $1.05M and “hit the board” in an incredible 12 graded stakes. Not only was Tap to Music incredibly successful on the racetrack, but she is also a half-sister to breeding stallion Northern Afleet, demonstrating the family’s propensity to produce horses that can race and produce other racehorses.

An impressive physical, a loaded pedigree, and now trained by Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, Swing Shift’s career is set up for success. We expect him to make his first start this winter and hope to see him in some big races this Spring. Swing Shift was born and bred to do the work and punch the clock, we’re glad to have him on our team.
