Writeup

Biko has everything you look for in a race prospect. A pedigree full of proven racehorses, a strong balanced body, good feet, and the “class” required to perform at the highest levels.

“I think I have the perfect colt for Commonwealth.” – Marette Farrell

Internationally renowned bloodstock agent Marette Farrell identified this colt as a unique opportunity for Commonwealth and suggested we scoop him up right away. After spending time with him we were impressed by his intelligence, bravery, and precocious attitude.

We sent him to Tony Everard to get his start and learn the basics of being a racehorse. He was in great hands, Tony also started 2003 Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide and 2020 Derby favorite Tiz the Law. He became a barn favorite and after 6 months he left with a glowing endorsement:

“He’s a great big powerful horse and he’s leaving the starting gate like a jet plane! It’s a very nice horse.”

On June 3, 2020 he began full race training with Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Graham Motion at Fair Hill Training Center. He breezed 3F in 37.0 on August 7 and has since stepped up to 5F breezes with ease. Graham is known for taking impeccable care of his horses, operating at a high level of integrity, and boasting one of the best performance records in the world.

Biko made his first start in November to build his confidence and take advantage of the fall racing season. He took a 3 month break over the winter months but is prepared to return to full-time race training this month. We hope to have a full race calendar this summer and a lot of fun along the way!
